Are you planning to host a special meal during the upcoming holiday season?! Creating a festive holiday table can add to the ambience and specialness of these events. Below are some tips for creating a beautiful environment to make memories with family and friends.

  • Consider your style. You will have an easier time determining what types of elements you want included in your table if you have a specific style in mind. There are countless interior decorating styles but here are some popular ones: traditional, contemporary, industrial, bohemian, farmhouse, shabby chic, cottage, and eclectic. Which ones do you gravitate toward? If you look around your home you will probably have a good idea of the type of styles that work for you. For the dining table that we created we had a rustic farmhouse style in mind. This helped us decide what we wanted to include as we set about creating this lovely festive dining table.
  • The table linens. There are many options to choose from when deciding on table linens. Tablecloths, for example, can be used if you want to create a traditional, elegant look. Tablecloths are also a great option if you have a dining table that you want to protect, especially from the younger diners that might be included in your party. If you have a beautiful dining surface that you would like to show off, however, a table runner or placemats may be a better option for you. For our table we chose to show off the beauty of the dining table surface and use these neutral colored placemats that have a rougher texture. The texture creates a rustic feel and pairs beautifully with the bright, farmhouse style dishes.
  • The place settings. In considering the place settings this is where you will want to think about the number of courses and how formal your dining experience will be. Of course, if you are having a formal dining experience you will want to use the corresponding pieces like the salad fork, dessert spoon, water glass, wine glasses (one for red and one for white), bread plate, bread knife, etc. If you are having a less formal dining experience with fewer courses of food you may not choose to incorporate as many elements. Our place settings are less formal as we had a family gathering with small children for our rustic farmhouse holiday table in mind.
  • The centerpiece. This can be one of the most fun and enjoyable parts of the dining table to create. You get to decide how dramatic and striking or how subtle you may want the centerpiece to be. For our centerpiece we chose low-lying elements that would be beautifully eye-catching but also conducive for looking across the table at the other diners while engaging in conversation. Candles are a great way to create warm lighting and a magical ambience. Reflective elements like the glass bowls in our centerpiece also create glitter and sparkle that will add to the mood. We also used the greenery to support our rustic farmhouse theme. You can get creative here and make a centerpiece that will have that WOW effect!

We hope you enjoy creating your festive holiday table that you will gather around during the holidays to share a special meal with family and friends. If you need any additional help feel free to come in and pay us a visit!
